Highland Village History

Originally a weekend getaway for Dallas residents, Highland Village was incorporated in 1963 when about 100 owners of the homes built on the along the south shore of Lake Lewisville decided to move there permanently. Now a thriving upscale community, this south Denton County town recently was recognized for the ninth consecutive year by the Texas Department of Public Safety as the safest city in north Texas and is ranked as one of the best places to buy a home in the DFW Metroplex.

Highland Village is still an idea place for the DFW Metroplex workforce that wants to get away from it all in a lake resort-like setting. Area recreational facilities include Lake Lewisville, Copperas Branch Park, Unity Park, Kids Kastle, a community-built park and several other neighborhood parks made up of approximately 140 acres. In spite of its hideaway appeal, Highland Village is a mere 15 minutes from DFW Airport.
